The German flagged rescue ship had only reached the Libyan search and rescue zone a few hours earlier. The emergency call was forwarded by the organisation AlarmPhone to the Libyan rescue control center and the rescue ships ALAN KURDI and Ocean Viking at 10:31 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ship of\nthe Regensburg sea rescuers took around two hours to reach the coordinate,\nwhich was only about 17 nautical miles from the Libyan coast. The Libyan\nauthorities did not respond at any of the forwarded emergency call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A total of\n32 people were on the overcrowded plastic boat, including 10 children and 5\nwomen, one of which pregnant. The youngest child is just 3 months old. All\nsurvivors claim to be Libyan citizens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cHow safe can Libya be if the Libyans put their families at sea at risk of life in order to leave the country so quickly?\u201d said Gorden Isler, Chairman of Sea-Eye.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>No rescue\ncontrol center declared its responsibility until Friday morning. The ALAN KURDI\nhas meanwhile set course for the Italian island of Lampedusa, because another\nstorm is already forecasted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cEscaping over the Mediterranean is particularly dangerous at this time of year because the weather is constantly changing,\u201d said Julian Pahlke, spokesman for Sea-Eye. \u201cIf we hadn&#8217;t found the people, they would have eventually got into the storm by tomorrow.
