{"id":6506,"date":"2020-05-20T16:01:19","date_gmt":"2020-05-20T14:01:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sea-eye.org\/?p=6506"},"modified":"2020-05-20T16:24:16","modified_gmt":"2020-05-20T14:24:16","slug":"petition-free-the-rescue-ships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sea-eye.org\/en\/petition-free-the-rescue-ships\/","title":{"rendered":"Petition: Free the rescue ships!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Italian Ministry of Transport has been detaining our rescue ship ALAN KURDI in the port of Palermo for over two weeks. The rescue ship AITA MARI of the Spanish organization Salvamento Mar\u00edtimo Humanitario (SMH) was also detained in the same port. At the same time, people are still dying in the Mediterranean Sea, while seeking a place of safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Italian coast guard justified detaining the rescue ships citing safety concerns. Our German flag state strongly opposed this assessment and determined that there were no such serious security deficiencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Italy is taking decisive action against civil rescue ships, thereby preventing our humanitarian work.
