Description:

The politicians are changing the laws governing refugees at every possibility and make it more difficult for refugees and migrants to enter Europe. Most European politicians and leaders are blaming refugees for all the problems. It is not the refugees who are the problem, but the policy of exclusion, isolation and deportation.

Women in Exile is a self-organized initiative founded in Brandenburg in 2002 by refugee women* to fight for their rights. We decided to organize as a refugee women’s group because we have made the experience that refugee women* are doubly discriminated against not only by racist laws and discriminative refugee laws in general but also as women*.

To celebrate 20 years of Women in Exile, we’ve written a diverse book with stories of our peer-education, the dangerous journeys women* take to get to European countries, life in the camps and the fear of deportation. In our book, we wrote about the importance of networking, about how to open up political structures to refugee (women*), among other things, and about our manifesto.
In our joint workshop with Sea-Eye Academy, we will discuss the particular struggles women* face when migrating to and living in Germany based on our personal experiences, our book, and our work as Women in Exile.

Referee:

Doris Dede is an activist and a dedicated member of Women in Exile e.V, who has embarked on her career as a sociology student. She works as an empowerment trainer in the field of flight and asylum with a focus on women’s* specific topics, strengthening and networking for women* with refugee history.” As a migrant woman herself, she understands the challenges of displacement, integration, and access to resources. Passionate about social justice and human rights, she continues to fight for a society where all women*, regardless of their background, have the opportunity to thrive.
