Documentaries about search and rescue in the Mediterranean

Why is civilian sea rescue necessary? What is really happening at Europe’s external borders? What impact are political actions and the growing legal pressure in Germany having?

The documentaries on sea rescue in the Mediterranean, “Route 4” and “No Country for Anyone”, produced in collaboration with Sea-Eye, provide answers to these questions and paint a striking picture of the impact of the EU’s border-closing policies.

The movie takes viewers on a moving journey. The documentary begins at Europe’s external borders, where an ongoing humanitarian crisis is met not only with official indifference but also with civic engagement. It follows a rescue operation in the Mediterranean, captures the dire situation from the air, and tells the stories of survivors.

A media team accompanied the rescue vessel ALAN KURDI on several rotations in the Mediterranean. In addition to numerous moving moments at sea, footage was also filmed in countries such as Niger, Tunisia, Libya, Italy and Malta, against the backdrop of the grave danger posed by Libya.
