Is sea rescue even allowed to be supported by municipal funds?
Yes! There is a current legal opinion (in german) that clearly states this is possible. You can view the opinion here.
The majority of the municipal representation (e.g., city council) makes the decision via application and vote.
Who decides on participation?
The respective municipal representation (e.g. city council) makes the decision via application and vote.
Does the city have to conduct a fundraising campaign to take on a sponsorship?
No. You can still become a ship sponsor without running a campaign. However, “Your City Saves Lives” is an opportunity to actively involve the public.
How long does such a campaign run?
It is usually temporary – often over several weeks or months.
What happens to the collected funds?
The donations and municipal funds flow directly into supporting sea rescue operations.
Can I make a difference without a political function?
