Sea-Eye e. V. annual report
Can journalists join on board the SEA-EYE 5?
Yes, under certain conditions, journalists may accompany the SEA-EYE 5 on board. However, the SEA-EYE 5 is a relatively small vessel. Journalists therefore do not just join on board solely as observers, but become part of the crew.
This means that you will actively take part in preparations, training sessions and – if necessary – rescue operations. This provides a direct and authentic insight into the work of a civilian sea rescue organisation in the central Mediterranean.
This intensive form of coverage is not suitable for everyone. However, we generally welcome journalistic interest and media coverage of our operations.
How can I apply to work on board the SEA-EYE 5 as a journalist?
The first step is to get in touch with our press officer. We will review your enquiry together with other members of the Sea-Eye team and get back to you shortly.
Journalists wishing to join us generally go through the same selection and preparation process as other crew members.
As a journalist, can I visit Sea-Eye’s base camp in Licata, Italy?
Yes, visits to our base camp in Licata, Italy, are generally possible. Please contact our press officer in advance so that the visit can be arranged.
You will be responsible for your own travel and accommodation costs.
What are the rules regarding photography and filming on board?
To protect the privacy of those rescued, Sea-Eye adheres to a strict “no-face policy”. Consequently, the faces of people fleeing must not be recognisable in photographs or video recordings.
It is, of course, possible to blur or pixelate faces retrospectively.
Crew members must also be asked for permission before any filming takes place. Their personal wishes and boundaries must be respected at all times.
Is it possible to interview crew members?
Yes, interviews with crew members are generally possible. Please contact our press officer. She will put you in touch with the appropriate contacts for the relevant topic or media outlet.
How is Sea-Eye funded?
Sea-Eye funds its work primarily through donations. These include many small contributions from private individuals as well as larger one-off donations.
In addition, Sea-Eye receives support from various organisations, including church groups, local authorities and international bodies. Sea-Eye has not received any federal government funding since last year.
The fact that the resulting funding shortfall was offset by the widespread support of so many people is, for us, an important sign of social solidarity.
What connection does Sea-Eye have with Regensburg?
Sea-Eye was founded in Regensburg more than ten years ago. Since then, it has maintained close ties with the city and its local community.
Regensburg and many people from the region have been supporting Sea-Eye both morally and financially for years. Just recently, there was a matching fund campaign using municipal funds from Regensburg.
