In the fall of 2015, a group of people gathered in Regensburg who were no longer willing to stand idly by while people were dying in the Mediterranean. Together, they founded the organization Sea-Eye. The organization’s goal is to locate people in distress at sea and rescue them. A 26.5-meter-long fishing boat, the SEA-EYE (formerly the STERNHAI), was purchased from a private owner (built in 1958). Refitted by volunteers at the shipyard in Rostock, the SEA-EYE was transferred from Rostock to Licata (Sicily) at the end of February 2016. And thus began the sea rescue operations of the Sea-Eye e. V. association.
Since then, volounteers have been meeting twice a month to share updates and organize activities. Everyone is welcome!
